Murals are a more recent love of Amlin's as she looks to scale her work and reach a broader public audience. She believes in the power of creating the joy you wish to find in the world, so opportunities to paint visual surprises in the urban landscape excites Amlin's appetite for vibrancy and celebration in daily life. She looks to further expand this area of work and is continuously seeking local and  international opportunities to bring her artwork to more urban landscapes and infuse communities with energy and colour!

The Flies + The Honey

141 artists created 473 concrete barriers to line the Scarlett Road Cycle Track.

Julie's four murals are located in the FABLES zone, so she connected her work to the fable "The Flies and the Honey". As a young child, this morbid fable thoroughly captured her imagination. The story is meant to teach us that pleasure bought with pain, hurts. However, to Amlin's young mind, the moral of the fable was lost and instead, an unnecessary aversion to honey sat stuck in its place.

The Flies and the Honey:

A jar of honey was upset and the sticky sweetness flowed out on the table. The sweet smell of the honey soon brought a large number of Flies buzzing around. They did not wait for an invitation. No, indeed; they settled right down, feet and all, to gorge themselves. The Flies were quickly smeared from head to foot with honey. Their wings stuck together. They could not pull their feet out of the sticky mass. And so they died, giving their lives for the sake of a taste of sweetness. Be not greedy for a little passing pleasure. It may destroy you.

Life Lines

Just as a tree reveals its age through an intricate pattern of lines, so too does time decorate us with visual markers of time as we endure. Profound beauty exists in these ribbons of emotion we adorn as our Life Lines. They speak of connection and the magical nuances of life, love, and loss as our individual Life Lines diverge, mingle, intertwine, and depart in one eternal dance.

Mother Nature

Mother Nature is our original source of inspiration; her gifts connect directly to our cultural identity. Environment is woven throughout our expression of individuality and culture but it is through contrast that we can appreciate the full beauty and vibrance of our interconnectedness on earth.

Mixed Messages

Amlin created a space where energy and collaboration is celebrated- where the mixing and mingling of ideas becomes the means by which we grow as individuals and as a community.    That growth can take us out of our comfort zone and feel overwhelming, but the process, nonetheless, can birth a beautiful transition.
